Letter of introduction High School Summer Reading English 11-12 Syllabus

bpyles@pcalions.org

Greetings and welcome to English 11/12!  I am looking forward to another good year at PCA!  This year in addition to reviewing and applying the rules of good grammar, we will improve writing skills, continue our study of Latin and Greek roots, review spelling rules in order to better present our ideas to others, and survey American literature. We will also prepare for the SAT by becoming familiar with the typos of questions included in the test and by developing strategies to analyze and answer the questions.

All the elements of English involve words. Whether we think them, read them, write them, or speak them aloud, words have power.  For that reason, it is important to choose our words correctly and wisely.  Our task this year will be to learn ways in which we can do that.

Our class verse for the 2016-2017 school year is Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer.”

For your information, I have attached a letter of introduction and a class syllabus to this page.

If you have any questions – now or throughout the school year – please contact me at the above email address.

Blessings,

Mrs. Pyles

One more thing:  Remember that summer reading logs and projects are due on the first day of school, Monday, August 29!  You will find the instructions document at the top of this page.
