Mrs Pyles’s English Class
Welcome to the new school year! It’s good to be back in the classroom once more – although I did enjoy my summer. I especially savored the opportunity to read a number of good books. While my students were working on their summer reading, so was I!
Soon we will be back in the routine of grammar rules and exercises, literature terms and great authors, vocabulary and spelling adventures, and writing. The amount of time spent in each area will vary from grade to grade, but we will learn more about the language God has given us and the works He has enabled great writers to share with us.
Throughout the year we will be reading poems, short stories, novels, and a drama or two as well as some non-fiction works. We will write and share our own literary creations – in the classroom and perhaps in other venues. Once again we will be participating in the ACSI Creative Writing Festival in the spring; I am looking forward to seeing more of my students’ work published this school year!
I am very proud of all our students who earned ribbons in last year’s Creative Writing Festival: 7 Excellent and 10 Superior. The entries for those who won Superior ribbons were sent to the regional festival, where three were chosen to be published in the annual book: “Adopted,” a short story by Kaitlyn Nelson, now an alumna of PCA; “Quarterback,” a free-verse poem by Immanuel Whitfield, currently a senior at PCA; and “Technology – To be or Not 2B,” a rhymed poem by Sarai Harris, currently a sophomore at PCA.
Looking forward to a wonderfully productive year!
