Providence Christian Academy School Crest

About Our PCA School Crest

We took much time and attention to develop our Providence Christian Academy (PCA) school crest so that it graphically conveys the principles upon which Providence Christian Academy was founded. Here is an explanation of our school crest.

Crest Colors

ROYAL BLUE, WHITE and GOLD are the colors of Providence Christian Academy.

The color ROYAL BLUE reminds us of the royal Kingdom of God. The color WHITE reminds us of purity and holiness, hallmarks of God’s eternal kingdom. GOLD, a most precious metal, symbolizes the deity of Christ and the inestimable value of our eternal salvation.

School Mascot

Our Providence Christian Academy mascot is the Lion. The lion has been called the “king of beasts” because it is strong, bold, and afraid of no other animal.

“…a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing…” (Proverbs 30:30)

Christ, our Savior, is “the Lion of the tribe of Judah.” He is gentle and kind to those who love him. But He is also a mighty protector for His beloved. As His children, we come to Him for protection from our enemies; He fights for us and saves us for all eternity.

For this is what the Lord said to me: As a lion or young lion growls over its prey when a band of shepherds is called out against it, and is not terrified by their shouting or subdued by their noise, so the Lord of Hosts will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its hill. Like hovering birds, so the Lord of Hosts will protect Jerusalem — by protecting it, He will rescue it, by sparing it, He will deliver it. (Isaiah 31:4-5)

The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion. (Proverbs
28:1)

The Shield

The Shield comes to three points along the top to remind us of the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – in whom we put our faith, which shields us from…

…your adversary, the devil, who prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1
Peter 5:8)

The Shield bears a Cross that divides the shield into four parts, each containing a symbol:

  • The Cross, stained red by the blood of our Savior who died to save us from our sin;
  • The Golden Lamp of Learning to remind us of our mission to train young people with the light of God’s Word;
  • The Bible, God’s Holy, inerrant Word which is the foundation of truth and life;
  • The three letters PCA, the acronym for our school, but that again reminds us of our triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Banner

The Shield points to a Banner beneath, which includes the words, Providentia Divinus, Latin for Divine Providence. Nothing in this universe or in our lives comes by mere chance.

The all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful Divinity is behind all that we see and even that which we do not see. He makes available to us his Divine guidance and care and by His wisdom and power He sustains and directs all of human destiny.

He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love. (Song of Songs 2:4 NKJV)
