I Mr. Allan Anderson, P.E. - PCA Math and Science Teacheram pleased to join Providence Christian Academy (PCA) this Fall 2016 as the interim mathematics and science teacher for middle school and high school students. This Fall 2016 I will be teaching 9th/10th Grade Geometry, 9th Grade Biology, and 7th/8th Grade Life Science courses.

Brief Bio

My career up to this point has consisted of nearly 40 years in engineering, to include over 14 years as an Army Officer with the Army Corps of Engineers, 20-plus years as a Defense Contractor and Department of Defense Employee, and about 5 years starting up my self-employed engineering consulting practice.

The Importance of Science and the Scientific Method

As a licensed professional environmental engineer, I am keenly aware of the important role that skills in science and the scientific method play in every endeavor of life, but especially as a foundation for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professions. So we will strive to equip PCA students with the strongest possible science skills while demonstrating how fun and fascinating a proper study of the sciences can be.

Always from a Christian Perspective

Just as important to learning critical scientific method skills, though, will be answering the questions:

  1. Is there evidence for God?
  2. Is there Scientific Evidence for God?
  3. Is it Rational to believe in God?
  4. Is it Reasonable to believe in God?

It is important to note that modern science was largely founded by Scientists who were Christians. So our science studies will also include who these Scientists were, how these Christians advanced their fields of science, and how their faith informed their work.

Because our world was created by the Christian God (who is a Rational Being), it follows that our earth and our universe are amenable to rational investigation. To quote a scientist whose studies led him from atheism to a belief in God,

Modern science was founded on this concept, that the universe follows laws that are basically rational, and can therefore be understood by rational minds (such as ours) and through rational investigation. If there is no God, there is no compelling reason why the Universe should follow laws that are basically rational and that can be understood by rational minds (such as ours)… And [if there is no God, there is therefore] no compelling reason why the Universe should be amenable to rational investigation. (Kinson, John M.. “Does Science Point to God?: Is there Scientific Evidence for God?” God & Science Book 2. Amazon Kindle Edition.)

The Bible as a Key Reference Book

And of course, we will use the Bible as an important reference, since it was God, not man, who was present at Creation. Indeed, it was the God of the Bible who created all that is, so He alone can inform us about how things came to be and for what purpose and end.

And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens… (Genesis 2:3-4 NLT)

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. (Romans 1:20 NLT)

Looking forward to joining you all for a very enjoyable and rewarding year of scientific study this 2016-17 school year at PCA!

Allan Anderson, P.E.
